It is a very sad day here at Thornwood. Marc VanOtteren, our long time employee, died yesterday, Sunday April 5th, after being hit by a car while riding his bicycle. Marc was an avid cyclist, actually riding with Sea to Sea – Cycling to End Poverty Tour from the Pacific to the Atlantic ocean two times in the past decade, as well as logging thousands more miles on organized and recreational rides.

Marc was so much more than an employee and co-worker, he was a friend, a 2nd son, an extra brother, selfless and loyal, a mentor, an example and a trusted confidant. As Dr. Stawski said, “…he was truly one-of-a-kind. Definitely the nicest, most genuine person I have ever met.”

Please keep Marc’s family as well as the rest of us who loved him in your prayers as we adjust to a new reality, one that will never be quite the same. We would have celebrated Marc’s 20th anniversary with Thornwood this August. He was 37-years young.
