Thornwood is a premier boarding facility in Ada, Michigan. We are one of the few dog boarding facilities offering connected, individual indoor/outdoor runs allowing your pet much greater space and opportunity for exercise. There are 58 kennel units available, constructed of wood and spacious enough to accommodate up to two large dogs in the same kennel should you be a multi-dog family. The outdoor runs are concrete divided by chain-link fence. We offer boarding at Thornwood Vet Clinic to both clients and non-clients.
Special Services for Canine Boarders
We offer a few optional services for your dog when they board with us at Thornwood.
Dog Walks While Boarding
If your dog would like additional exercise we offer outdoor walks on our private 1/2-mile trail circling the Thornwood Campus. Your pet will get plenty of fresh air and exercise and may even get an introduction to our cattle and horses (safely through the fence of course). These walks last approximately 20 minutes and are available for $11 each.
Field Trip to the Dog Park
We also can arrange a field trip for your pet to Shaggy Pines Dog Park off Cherry Lane, just a few miles from the Thornwood facility. Shaggy shuttle will pick up and return your dog to Thornwood. Your pet must have already been through the Shaggy Pines orientation program to participate in this opportunity. The normal Shaggy Pines fees apply for both the shuttle service, and visit. Applicable fees would be paid directly to Shaggy Pines.
Our Feline Boarders
We do offer cat boarding in a separate room from our dog kennels. The feline boarding room is built to reduce noise and offers windows for bird watching! We don’t have any formal interaction service with cats, but if they are particularly friendly they do get lots of scratching behind the ears from our staff.
Boarding Vaccine & Fecal Policy
Our goal is to provide a happy, safe, and disease free stay for all our boarding, grooming and daycare guests, and our employees.

Puppies and kittens too young for vaccines or working through the vaccine and worming schedule are considered current.
Fleas and Worms
Dogs and cats discovered to have fleas or internal parasites while boarding will be treated at the owner’s expense (this is pre authorized by the Boarding Release) and a $40 disinfection/cleaning fee will also be assessed.
Drop off and Pick up Time
Boarding drop off and pick up times are Monday – Friday 8am-6pm. Weekend drop offs and pick ups are available but must be pre-arranged and pre-paid during normal office hours.
